Why Summit ?

CHOOSING SUMMIT MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR YOUR STUDENT

Every year, hundreds of BVSD students choose Summit for Middle School.  In fact, every student admitted to Summit selects our school as their top choice in Open Enrollment.  Choosing Summit means choosing rigorous academics, enhanced curriculum, and dedication to learning.  Some students will tell you it means choosing a lot of homework, but all students will tell you it means being prepared to excel in high school and beyond.

We are dedicated to creating a rich learning environment with plenty of opportunities for creativity and ingenuity.  However, academic excellence and high standards are at the core of everything we do.  Our curriculum is different and our school year is longer.  We need every day and every moment to be rich in education so we can develop lifelong learners and leaders for tomorrow.

Homework at Summit

All Summit students expect daily homework, including weekends.  Sixth graders typically report 60-90 minutes of homework per night, seventh graders report 90-120 minutes, and eight graders expect about 120 minutes per night of homework.  Our curriculum is accelerated and incorporates more depth than a typical middle school.  As a result, homework is essential to fulfilling our mission.  Some students participate in study hall to support their academic endeavors.  Homework assignments range from practice problems in math, large multi-day history projects, and English papers.  We use Schoology to help students manage their personal workload.

Family Commitment

Students who choose Summit are often ambitious and successful in many different areas that they pursue.  Families that select Summit, and are chosen through the OE lottery, should be prepared to make academics and homework a top priority.  This commitment is essential to success at Summit.  Families are imperative partners to the work of our school and we appreciate your support.
